Brisbane City Hall officially opened on 8 April, 1930. It took years to build and was the second largest construction of its time next to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Since that time it has been the keeper of some of Brisbane's most cherished moments. City Hall has played host to countless royal visits, citizenship ceremonies, dances, weddings and concerts.
Today Brisbane City Hall is being restored to its former glory, so it can stand for another 80 years and beyond. When City Hall reopens, a time capsule containing Brisbane stories will be placed inside the building for safe keeping. The time capsule will remain inside City Hall for 50 years, with the hope that future residents can learn about what life was like in the year 2012.
