Hey! My name is Kathleen Miller and I am from Teller, Alaska. I am originally from King Island and Wales. My traditional Inupiaq name is Okleasik, and I was named after an elder whom passed away in my community. I have lived in Teller all my life. Growing up I always felt like my community can improve and now that I am older I feel like I can help improve it. I honestly would like to learn and build some type of knowledge or support from other people.
I attended school (k-12) at James C. Isabell School and my graduating class was 7 students....pretty small! After graduating high school I was a biology intern at Univeristy of Alaska Fairbanks during the summer of '08. After my first year at UAF, I worked at home as a Wellness Intern. I worked with youth of all ages and elders. Hands down that was the best job I ever had. That job made me realize that there is so much my community can improve on.
I am now 19 years old and a sophmore Elementary Education Major at University of Alaska Fairbanks. I am also interested in nursing, but so leaning towards teaching in my community or another rural area. =D that its for now. See you next week!
