Contemporary Australian Artist, painter, glass and print maker.
My work has a direct relationship with my life and surroundings. The work becomes a record, of layers of time and memory that have occurred not only while the space is under observation but through history. The layers of time and investigation become worked into the surface, describing/concealing, creating/destroying as the process and work develops. The work is not a photographic in any way but an expression of my memory and the slippages that occur through time.
Art has always been an integral part of my life. For some, art making is a casual affair, for some the process is rigorous and often isolating. But the results can be the same for all artists. Something happens when I give myself the time and the freedom to explore. Something magical can happen between the head the heart and the hand. Then that magic can be shared. I don’t mean that magic is a necessarily pretty manifestation but a visual dialogue between artist and viewer. The process of making art also allows me the time to pause. A therapy in itself. In my experience, the shared experience of art making can create a collective energy. Whether that energy is with between artist and viewer or as a group of artists it is tangible
I’ve worked as an artist for 30 years. I am a designer, painter, drawer an observer. I’ve worked with community and art therapy is never far away from the process. Art as a connection to others is never far away. Whether art is a scrap of paper or a major commission art can make a difference.
