Chinchilla Family History Group was formed in March 2010 by a group of genealogy researchers in the Chinchilla Group. It now has a membership of 20. The group meets monthly and have participated in workshops on the ''how to'' of family history researchand the Family Tree Maker program. Thanks to a funding grant from Western Downs Regional Council the groupĀ tripped to Brisbane to visit the Queensland State Archives and the Queensland State Library to further our research.
The ultimate aim of the group is to set up a Family History Centre in Chinchilla where researchers can access local archival material and have internet access to family history websites.
We are hoping to set up our own website where other researchers can access local family history. A project is already underway to locate and document lone graves and cemetries in the Chinchilla area as well as document, photograph and index the Pioneer Cemetry in Chinchilla.
These are early beginnings and we have big dreams. If you are interested in history of local Chinchilla families or history of the district, please feel free to contact our group.
