RAFI supports family farms as we promote equity, diversity and community in agriculture.
RAFI-USA traces its heritage to the National Sharecroppers' Fund which was founded in the 1930's. Fortified by decades of experience, RAFI came into its own as an independent not-for-profit in 1990.
Our Mission: RAFI cultivates markets, policies and communities that support thriving, socially just and environmentally sound family farms.
What we are working on:
- Keeping family farms in the family
- Fostering farmer innovation and entrepreneurship
- Protecting the integrity of the organic label
- Fighting for fair contracts for farmers
- Combating concentration of ownership and control in agricultural production and distribution
- Defending public ownership of diverse seeds and breeds
- Reducing farmers’ risk from natural disasters
- Rewarding fair labor practices
- Educating people about their food sources
