The National Rural Youth Assembly is a diverse group of organizations and individuals, youth and adults, working to positively shape policies that affect young people and their communities. We believe effective solutions to the challenges facing our country must include youth investment.
This is a broad-based coalition that values intergenerational exchanges and the sharing of knowledge. We recognize that the most meaningful outcomes emerge from diverse collaboration that crosses geography, sector, age, culture, and identity. Through our efforts, we seek to draw national attention to the role rural youth are poised to play as we imagine how our nation will continue to feed, fuel, and maintain its competitive edge on a global scale.
Our formation grew out of the National Rural Assembly, which sponsored the first National Rural Youth Assembly event held in April 2010 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A group of 54 rural youth delegates, along with members of the National Rural Youth Assembly Steering Committee and other youth practitioners, policymakers, and funders, gathered to discuss the policy issues and priorities of rural youth. Our present priorities have evolved from that first meeting.
