The 2013 National Rural Assembly took place in Bethesda, Maryland, June 23-26.
The theme of the 2013 conference and the Rural Assembly going forward is Building an Inclusive Nation. Agriculture Secretary Vilsack’s recent commentary on the relevancy of rural America has captured the moment and focused rural practitioners on where our work fits in, and we plan to use that momentum to build on the theme of an inclusive nation. Participants are attending from rural organizations across the country and representing various sectors, including health, agriculture, arts, education, investment, and philanthropy, as well as members of the Administration, Congress, and federal agencies.
Over the conference's three days we’ll be offering a more progressive narrative for and about rural America that focuses heavily on the shifting demographics and political changes currently underway in our communities and the opportunities these changes present for rural in building a more sustainable and inclusive nation.
We would like you to share your stories with other participants and rural advocates across the country, and around the world. This PlaceStories project builds on stories created for the 2011 Rural Assembly in St. Paul, MN.
