Community Stream Sampling
21 Oct 2008

Community Stream Sampling started in Cowra to identify salinity hotspots in the Mandagery and Belubula subcatchments. LCMA approached community groups through Landcare to ask Landholders to test their bores, dams and creeks, rivers or streams. The people involved were community groups, landcare, schools and individuals. It finally rained and LCMA ran a workshop for landholders to learn about stream sampling using electroconductivity meters to test the amount of dissolved salt present in the water. They selected their sites as a group. They practised using their EC meters and learnt about calibration and testing using uS/cm. They tested in the streams as a group. This enhanced their understanding of how salt concentration affects their local streams and what levels are present in their stream.
