Heather and Eugene Matthews have been local leaders in the landcare movement. The Dalrymple Landcare Committee formed in 1988 (even before the national era of 'landcare') as a result of producers coming through a severe drought in the 1980's and realising the need to develop better sustainable land management.

During the 1990's, the group hosted field days and workshops to promote the benefits of conservative management. Since 1994, there has been a continuous flow of on-ground projects to expedite infrastructure, resources and knowledge required to adopt good grazing management practices. The challenge now in the 2000's is to inform urban communities that producers are doing the right thing for environmental management.
