Narration - 3 Rivers Landcare Group

The Three Rivers Landcare Group formed in the early 1990s as a group of property owners who hold a strong interest in improving their knowledge of land management practices. In 2006, members of the group collectively decided to invite the man behind Natural Sequence Farming - Peter Andrews, to find out more about Peter's ideas and if they were at all applicable to their enterprises.

Thanks to the efforts landholders of the Three Rivers Landcare Group, Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM Townsville and the Dalrymple Landcare Committee, Peter Andrews was secured for a four day visit to the region in March 2007. Peter's visit included a two day tour of the region to gain insight and familiarity with the local region. During these two days, owners of five properties in the group kindly gave their time and granted the group access to their property.

A Natural Sequence Farming Field Day was held on the third day of Peter's visit, in which 120 people from a diverse range of backgrounds and parts of Queensland attended. The field day provided a great opportunity to gain insight into Peter's ideas. This field day was a very successful field day and a great opportunity to bring new ideas to the local producers. The Three Rivers Landcare Group and its members are now working towards applying their new learnt ideas to their own operations.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the collaborating organisations, Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM, Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries Charters Towers and the Dalrymple Landcare Committee Inc and the members of the Three Rivers Landcare Group. Their support, commitment, knowledge and generosity were pivotal to the success of the day and proved what landcare groups can achieve.
