The state of California has multiple regions and diverse communities. The definition of “rural” in California, given its diverse geography, can be challenging. Although I technically don’t live in a rural community, I drive 30 miles east to work and be in a city considered rural by USDA (US department of agriculture). This just goes to show the diverse geography of California.

My hometown of Oxnard, CA is home to the Oxnard Plain, an area of low-laying land. Given the type of soil found in this area and our great coastal climate, it’s one of the most fertile areas in the world. This picture shows one of the many strawberry fields in Oxnard.
