Description

It is believed to be more than 150 years since a traditional bark canoe has been seen on local waterways of the Sunshine Coast. Across south-east Queensland the skills and traditions of canoe making have been largely lost over time.
Gubbi Gubbi Gun'doo Yang'ga'man is a research and reconstruction project that is seeing the skills and traditions of bark canoe making relearnt and reinstated by the Gubbi Gubbi people. This exhibition documents these activities and promotes the project’s national significance and value for the community.
Canoe builders, Lyndon Davis, Brent Miller, Nathan Morgan and Kerry Jones; Researcher, Ray Kerkhove; Documentation, James Muller; Curator, John Waldron.

[descrip_text] => It is believed to be more than 150 years since a traditional bark canoe has been seen on local waterways of the Sunshine Coast. Across south-east Queensland the skills and traditions of canoe making have been largely lost over time.Gubbi Gubbi Gun'doo Yang'ga'man is a research and reconstruction project that is seeing the skills and traditions of bark canoe making relearnt and reinstated by the Gubbi Gubbi people. This exhibition documents these activities and promotes the projects national significance and value for the community.Canoe builders, Lyndon Davis, Brent Miller, Nathan Morgan and Kerry Jones; Researcher, Ray Kerkhove; Documentation, James Muller; Curator, John Waldron.ExhibitionThursday 30 May to Sunday 30 June 2013Official OpeningThursday 30 May, 6.00 pmGubbi Gubbi Canoe Community Day, Noosa Regional GallerySaturday 22 June, 11.00 am - 2.00 pmA day to celebrate the arts and culture of the Gubbi Gubbi people.
