Description

Murries on Barwon (MoB) consists of seven local Aboriginal community members from the Mungindi area. They share a passion for learning through vocational training and mentoring, allowing them to implement natural resource management using best practice techniques on land owned by the Mungindi Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC). This property, ‘Glanville’, is located south-west of Mungindi and was originally purchased to train Aboriginal people in land and agricultural management.

Vocational training is provided through TAFE NSW. As part of the learning and project governance system, participants take rotational roles on the project steering committee to learn project planning and administrative skills. Additional training has also been provided including Aboriginal site awareness, farm planning and Monitoring Evaluation, Reporting and Improvement techniques (MERI). This has involved a range of state and local agency partners.

Progress to date has been exceptional and the project is a role model at a Federal level for future Indigenous funding and NRM opportunities.
