There are many community groups who's aim is to protect the biodiversity of the Fitzroy River by restoring the native vegetation and conserve the wildife living within it.  The use of native trees and plants to improve habitat, soil and water quality in areas where native vegetation has been removed or depleted whether through farming or mining.

Much work is being done to encourage sustainable farming enterprises, recognising that maintaining and improving biodiversity on productive farming land along the river is as important as in wilderness areas.
