“Calls From Home”: WMMT-FM/ Appalshop
18 Sep 2013
Published To

WMMT-FM, the community radio station of Appalshop, produces an hour long “Calls From Home” show where friends and loved ones call and leave shout-outs for those incarcerated within WMMT’s listening radius in Central Appalachia.

With generous support from the Kentucky Foundation for Women, we at WMMT are working on strengthening our programming around mass incarceration by sharing the perspectives and artistic work of Kentucky women impacted by and/or doing work around the criminal justice system through the production of a 12-part radio series, a 1-hour audio collage, and a 1-hour radio talk show.

The artist or arts organization telling this story was supported in part by a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women. KFW is based on the belief that when women and girls advance, so does Kentucky. For more information about the foundation and the social change artmaking being done by the individuals and organizations it supports, visit www.kfw.org."
