Connections in Solitude

This documentary photography project has been created to highlight female farmers throughout the state of Kentucky. The women within the body of work have been chosen because they directly work with the land and agriculture, farming anything from vegetables and tobacco crops to running horse stables and cattle farms. The body of work is intended to portray women, their surroundings and farm life in an honest yet strong, positive light. As a visual artist who grew up on a farm in Kentucky, I wanted to represent (and document) the strong female presence within the farming industry.

The artist or arts organization telling this story was supported in part by a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women. KFW is based on the belief that when women and girls advance, so does Kentucky. For more information about the foundation and the social change artmaking being done by the individuals and organizations it supports, visit www.kfw.org."
