Description

Following the whole stick cane harvester, chopper harvesters were designed. These are the harvesters still used today. Chopper harvesters are able to remove the trash through extraction fans as well as chop the cane into billets before feeding through to the collection bins. Nowadays, most farmers don't burn the cane before harvesting as the trash is sometimes used as a blanket to keep moisture in because of harsh climate conditions. Keeping the trash also helps to prevent weeds from growing. As a result of this, farmers use less poison to kill the weeds. This has been one major change in the way farmers care for the environment.
