After facing these terrible conditions many of the settlers in Greenough left and moved to the Goldfields, where they would hopefully have more luck. Numerous stone buildings in the area were left empty and during the Great Depression some were destroyed and the stone was used to make roads.

1. Why do you think people would have moved to the goldfields?

2. Can anybody name one of those terrible conditions the farmers had to face during that time?
