Description

Kershaw Gardens is a man-made Australian Native Botanic Garden.  An Australian native garden is a garden that has mostly Australian plants growing in it.  Kershaw Gardens was made to look the same as a natural Australian bush and rainforest.

A botanical garden is an area that displays many different plants and has name labels of these plants.

The gardens were built on the old rubbish dump site along the Bruce Highway in North Rockhampton.  It was opened in 1988 the same year Australia celebrated its 200th birthday.  This was known as the bicentennial celebrations.  The man-made features include the waterfalls, a lagoon, a war memorial, barbeque and playground areas, a windmill and a slab hut.
