Description

This video brings you to the city of Gladstone.

Situated on the East coast of Queensland, Gladstone is situated approximately 550 kilometres North of Brisbane, and 100 kilometres South-East of Rockhampton.

Originally owned by the Goereng, Goreng Goreng, and Baiali indigenous tribes, Gladstone was discovered during Matthew Flinders' circumnavigation of Australia in 1802.  Flinders proceeded to name the the port after Admiral Roger Curtis, a man who had assisted Flinders many years prior.  The town itself, however, was named after the British statesman William Ewart Gladstone.

DID YOU KNOW:

In 1846, Gladstone was considered to be the capital city of Queensland?  This is one of the main reasons that people came to settle in Gladstone.
