Over time the local industries have stirred up a range of environmental issues impacting Gladstone. One as such, was the excessive releasing of coal dust in the air from coal trains. By local citizens of Gladstone, environmentalists and the local industries working together, a solution was found to wet down the coal trains to reduce the amount of dust released. This was a local problem, solved by a group of people with very different views to improve the sustainability of Gladstone.
