The new Sydney Street bridge was damaged by the 1918 cycclone. It was named the Forgan Bridge and opened on the 30th of March 1938.

The new Forgan Bridge, consists of 4 lanes and a public walkway. The bridge is 486 metres long and 25 metres wide.

The bridge provides the people of Mackay access to the city (buisness centre) from the northern suburbs while also connecting people to the Blue Water Trail.
