Art in the City - Australia Day
1 Oct 2013

Australia Day was created by Zoe Hogan in 2013 while in an art class taught by Helen Murray at Bunbury Primary School.  The technique involves applying a base layer of oil pastels and then coating the layer with ink.  Designs and patterns are then etched in to the ink, revealing the colours of the oil pastels just below the surface.  Australia Day captures the spirit of Bunbury because there are so many recognisable icons:  a variety of boats, the Marlston Hill Lookout Tower with its spiral staircase, the chequered pattern of the Bunbury Lighthouse, and the peak of the Bunbury ‘milk-carton’ Tower.  The Australia Day theme comes across once you spot the fireworks.
