SouthWest Rural Theatre Project
17 Dec 2013
Published To

SWRTP includes a troupe of actors and technicians (The Company) who rehearse and produce shows in the main venue in preparation for taking the finished product to the rural towns of the Southwestern United States. These include the shows chosen from the ‘main stage’ productions in The Project to become part of the repertory.

Historically, live theatre has only been available to those who live in large cities. SWRTP exposes people to the arts who may not otherwise ever have the opportunity by taking the experience to the smaller communities. The main idea behind The Company is to have a troupe of players dedicated to knowing the shows in the repertory well enough to pick them back up after a few pick up rehearsals, or on short notice, and tour to a rural location. The Company will assist in both operating The Project and touring the repertory.
Activities for The Company include but are not limited to:

  • Local and rural tours
  • Local and rural educational outreach in public schools
  • Special performances for groups or events
