Art – Nature – History:
The Old Florida Celebration of the Arts in Cedar Key, April 12 & 13, 2014.

Enjoy the artwork of 120 selected fine artists and craftsmen, while experiencing the quiet beauty of Cedar Key located on Florida’s Nature Coast at the 50th Annual Spring Arts Festival in historic Cedar Key.

This small island community, 60 miles SW of Gainesville at the end of State Road 24, has long been a haven for artists and nature lovers.  The Sidewalk Art Show, which was started in 1964, is now known as the Old Florida Celebration of the Arts and attracts top artists and over 20,000 visitors each year.

The iconic and often photographed Honeymoon Cottage, located just off the shoreline near downtown Cedar Key, was selected as the inspiration of the 2014 Festival Design Contest.  The remnants of what was originally the Thomas Guest House, still stand despite years of abuse from Mother Nature and make a fitting focus for a celebration of 50 years of art in Cedar Key.  Tony Krysinsky’s engraved wood painting, entitled “Honeymoon Cottage 1959,”was selected as the Design Contest Winner.

In addition to being surrounded by nature you can enjoy fresh seafood, homemade goodies, music, children’s activities and more in Cedar Key’s City Park which is located right on the Gulf adjacent to the event. 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday. Free.

This event is featured on the Year of the Rural Arts Calendar of Events. For more information on the Year of the Rural Arts, visit www.artoftherural.org
