'Blatanly Obvious is a series of commercially signs erected in the Bundaberg CBD with text/ images that challenge their traditional purposes.

The project delivered a contemporary art form to the community in a Public Art, Public Spaces scenario. Commercial appearing signs are installed in site-specific locations in the Bundaberg CBD but will, however, give more meaningful messages than their customary counterparts. Specially designed and professionally made, these signs deliver humour, social commentary and thoughtful discourse. The audience comprises of all walks of the community as they happen upon these works, not by design but by accident. Reactions vary with many questioning the 'reality' of the signs and the messages they impart.

'Blatantly Obvious' is a public art project developed by Catherine Smith and funded by Arts Qld. through the Regional Arts Development fund and the Bundaberg City Council in 2008.

In 2007 Catherine moved from Bundaberg where she had been teaching Secondary School Visual Arts at Bundaberg High School, relocating to Brisbane to take up the position of Senior Arts Teacher at Alexandra Hills State High School. In addition to undertaking fulltime employment as a teacher Smith also undertakes her visual art practice from her studio in Wynnum.
