Description
In Brazeau, there were many books from the small schools there, like the old civics book, The Rise of Our Free Nation, from a style of history we don’t teach anymore, and the intriguing Prose and Poetry Adventures. I wished I’d flipped open the table of contents, to see where those adventures would have led us. Nearby, there was a battered copy of the inevitable Pilgrim’s Progress, the book that for a good century was second in popularity only to the Bible in early America. And I have to recall the globe there—one with fewer countries in Africa, only one Korea, but clearly a Soviet Union. I should have looked more closely at American states.
