ArtRageous 2014
25 Apr 2014

On April 25th, the Missouri Folk Arts Program went to Broadway Brewery in downtown Columbia to see master Old-Time fiddler John P. Williams perform with his apprentice, Bob Cathey. They were joined by Kenny Applebee on backup guitar. Williams and Cathey are current participants in the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program.

The three musicians are all aficionados of Old-Time style. When asked to describe the difference between Old Time and Texas Style, which is quickly becoming the favored performance style at contests, they said, “in Old Time, you leave a lot of the notes out. In Texas Style, you play more of them”.
