Description

The first women to open an Indigenous radio station in Sydney. She is an inspiration to the young generation of the Indigenous people. She lived in Moree New South Wales and then later moved to Redfern in Sydney.

Cathy Craigie is an confident evocative women of the Gamilorio nation of Australia. With an inspiring story of her life she tells her story of change and the way it helped her feel better better about herself. In her words “everyday someone inspires you and you’ve just got to look for that inspiration. With her mum and teacher gave her that way of being adventurous. She travelled all around the world and spoke of going to South Africa and other beautiful places of the world. Cathy also went to boarding school and learnt how to become independent and live on her own and learnt the way to survive without her parents being around her all the time

Since day one of having children and having her own little family she also seemed to want to change the views of Indigenous people. She always worked and wanted to get off her feet and put in 100%, every time she wanted to succeed. with a strong connection to family. Cathy was able to go back home and support the Moree Boomerangs and The Narwan Eels she had a strong connection to her home towns and family. Hearing her story, I’ve got a sense of the possibility we all have to make a difference and change the attitudes of the Indigenous and Non- Indigenous communities.
