Description

In 1967 the Good Neighbour Council identified a desperate need to provide services for the local community to meet the needs of multicultural people migrating to the area who had no service provision. Funding for the service was provided by the Department of Immigration. The Good Neighbour Council of Redfern established the South Sydney Community Aid Co-operative Limited in 1968. The South Sydney Community Aid Cooperative Ltd currently has more than 130 members. South Sydney Community Aid Multicultural Neighbourhood Centre (SSCA-MNC) is supported by South Sydney Community Aid Co-operative Limited and funded by the Department of Family and Community Services. The organisation proudly celebrated its 40th birthday in 2008. The Multicultural Neighbourhood Centre services the communities of Redfern, Waterloo, Darlington, Alexandria and the broader City of Sydney Local Government Areas. Today they provide services to people who are Culturally and Linguistically Diverse including individuals and families, those from a non-English speaking backgrounds on a low income, socially isolated, unemployed, seniors and the disabled.
