Description
The painting of the Assumption of Mary was in the Jesuit Mission Church that was at Kaskaskia until Pierre Laclede along with teenager, Auguste Chouteau, evicted the priests in 1763. It was subsequently returned to this congregation. The two saints also were in the mission church. Our Ste. Genevieve community was linked with this parish until after the British took it over after the French ceded the land on the west side of the Mississippi River to Spain. In fact, the priest from Kaskaskia served the congregation here for many years. Our Fifth Annual Louis Bolduc Day Celebration will include a visit to this church.
