Art House - Transportable arts hub - Change and Adaptation, Country Arts SA

Change and Adaptation is a 3 year partnership program connecting arts, health and the environment. It was established with the awareness that change is the biggest driver in the contemporary world.

During the course of the Change and Adaptation (Country Arts SA) program, a major infrastructure project was introduced to significantly rebuild the Southern Fleurieu Community Health Service.

A temporary art space (transportable) was placed on location at SFHS. This facility enabled a joyful and creative space for staff and clients to visit. Change and Adaptation artists used this hub for workshops and activities over the year as demolition and construction of the (new) Health Service took place.

Staff were asked, in several different ways, what activities and environment they wanted to create in and around the Art House. The first activity was to paint a brightly coloured café type umbrella which gives shade on the adjoining deck. A vertical garden has also been assembled and staff can pick herbs for lunch and enjoy a ‘living wall’ outside their door. Clients from Create and Connect and the Aboriginal Youth Action Committee worked with Artist, Annabelle Collett to make a sculptural installation to be fixed to the outside of the Art House to make it more attractive, inviting and quirky.

Funded through The Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Communities Partnership Initiative with Country Arts SA and contributions from project partners.
