The Black Swan Prize for Portraiture is the third richest portrait prize in Australia, featuring a $50,000 1st prize and a $7,500 People’s Choice Prize, and is the only one of its kind in Western Australia. It provides an invaluable role within the WA community for artists to showcase their portraiture works as well as provide an opportunity for the public to see Australia’s finest artists exhibited in their home state.

From a community perspective the Black Swan Prize is an interactive event that engages solidly with its audience. Consisting of a diverse following of artists, art lovers, art collectors, corporate executives, local businesses and families, the uniqueness of this event draws people of all ages from across Australia and has created a rapidly growing and loyal following. The implementation of the highly successful Youth Prize ensures that a younger audience is also engaged, bringing with them their family networks.

The key aim for ARTrinsic inc, the not-for-profit organisation behind the Black Swan Prize, is to deliver high quality and innovative events/programmes for the greater community to engage in, thus encouraging and promoting the visual arts in Western Australia. ARTrinsic Inc is primarily an arts organisation with a project budget between $300,000 - $400,000. It is funded largely through corporate support.
