Footscray Community Arts Centre’s ‘Indigenous Cultural Program’ encompasses a range of programs, projects and events that focus on creatively engaging artists and audiences from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in and around Melbourne’s west.  We are invested in ensuring new works and contemporary voices along with celebrating and acknowledging traditional practices and elders.

The program is developed in consultation and collaboration with the community.  The ICP incorporates a range of collaborations opportunities and projects including:

·         Elders in Residence Aunty Carolyn Briggs and Uncle Larry Walsh.

·         Wominjeka – an annual festival celebrating contemporary Indigenous arts and cultural practice

·         BlackScreen – showcasing contemporary Indigenous film content, in partnership with the National Film and Sound Archive

·         Scribe  - commissioning and creating new works by Indigenous live theatre artists

·         Playwright in Residence – John Harvey, Brown Cabs Productions, in residence creating new theatre works

·         Indigenous Tech Training:  ensuring Indigenous representation in the technical and production industry

·         Ensuring opportunities for asylum seeker and refugee communities have access to Indigenous Traditional Owners and a the process involved in a Welcome to Country
