Good Luck and Be Patient

I painted this artwork in 1993 when I received a grant from Arts Queensland. I donated this painting to Arts Queensland in 1993. I have loaned it on many occasions for many exhibitions. Recently, I loaned it for almost 5 years to an Exhibition in Japan which marked 30 years since the fall of Saigon.

This painting describes the desperation, poverty and starvation of the Vietnamese people post-war. Without the help of over one million Vietnamese Boat people from the Freedom World who sent money back for their relatives, Communist Vietnam would have collapsed and fallen. Therefore they had to open the door from 1990.

This painting acts as a wish to send back to my Vietnam country, as its title reflects: Good Luck and Be Patient.
