Afloat was a three year project initiated by Creative Regions following the floods of 2010/2011 in the Bundaberg Region. Digital animation workshops had occurred with other projects planned when the 2013 floods, tornadoes and storm surge hit the region. With additional state government funding the project extended to include the Bundaberg, North Burnett, Fraser Coast, Gladstone and Rockhampton regions with a range of programs including digital animation, digital storytelling, weaving and sculpture, circus, writing, ephemeral public art and place activation, culminating in four events. The project engaged with more than 10,000 people in a variety of ways, demonstrating how the arts can assist communities to heal following natural disasters.
