Tasmanian Museum staff have positvely identified the caterpillars which impacted on much of the eucalypts in forest surrounding Hobart as Cup Moths (Doratiferia oxleyi). The outbreak of caterpillars is thought to be the largest known occurrence in Tasmanian forests. It is expected that no long term impacts will occur.
