We facilitated the rolling role drama project at a local Newcastle primary school. The Year 6 students were asked to enter the world of fiction and pretend to be different characters to explore multiple points of view from a fictitious community called Ardus Unda. This community was facing the imminent threat of destruction by rising sea waters."There Once was an Island" was shown about half way through the drama experience. The people of Tuvalu, in the Pacific Ocean, are facing similar events as in Ardus Unda. From this point on, the learning experience changed: it was real in their world. Discussion during the reflection showed student's deeper levels of understanding and critical thinking. A link to the footage is provided in more info.
