Hong Kong

Earlier this year I went to Hong Kong to visit my grandfather for his 100th birthday. It had been more than five years since I had visited last. It was an incredibly special opportunity to be able to connect to my culture and my elders. In my grandparents, I could see traits that had been passed down to my father and onto me and my sister. I could suddenly see a fuller picture of where I had come from and where I was heading.

Many things had changed in the city but I still felt a deep sense of connection to the place. It's funny how you can find affinity in the smallest of details. For me, it was the candy coloured buildings - so different to the colour schemes in Australia - which resonated with my own pastel obsessions.
