Sisters Beach

I was born in Burnie Tasmania in 1978 and raised on the North West Coast of the island. Blown by the freezing winds as a child, I would walk for hours alone on a winter’s day, along the vast stretch now called Sisters Beach. The feeling of isolation was immense and the shape shifting patterns in the sand created by the receding tide, are forever woven into my heart. It was here that I first became comfortable with my inner voice. Allowing my thoughts to be swept up and integrated into the landscape. It was here that I began to grasp the magnitude and severity of the Aboriginal cultural erasure on the island. A place I called home. A stolen land.
