QMF 2011 - Behind The Cane (behind-the-scenes) 12 MIN
7 Oct 2011
Published To

BEHIND THE CANE premiered in Bowen during Queensland Music Festival 2011, to rave reviews and 8,000 audience members. The cast of 180 community members was supported by only one professional actor, and an outstanding team of creatives who worked with them to develop the script, score and skills in the lead-up to the world premiere event. BEHIND THE CANE tells the story of the Australian South Sea Islander community, many of whom were brought to Australia as indentured labour in the 18th century. This compelling story reveals the tremendous strength, determination and soul of this community over the generations.
