Typical symptoms of people with parasites are loss of sleep, depression, over thinking and eating vata aggravating foods like dry, crispy and cold with taste of bitter, pungent, and astringent. So, if you are looking to gain weight. Try out these simple, natural and effective remedies.

  1. If you are a vegetarian, eat plenty of soy bean which is high in protein. Try to eat fruit or drink fresh fruit juice, if possible, every day or at least three times a week.
  2. Eat curd, milk, ghee, milk, black gram, and wheat in your daily diet. These foods help gaining weight in a healthy manner. Ghee increases body dhatus or tissues. It also increases the appetite and digestion and reduces vata.

3.    If you are a non-vegetarian, you can eat any meat of your choice twice in a week. Hence if you eat a lot of flesh you can increase the same. Avoid frying or cooking meat in too much oil. Meat needs to be cooked in ghee along with spices like black pepper, salt, ginger, and garlic. Mutton (Paya) soup is the best food for vata provoked conditions.

4.    Try to eat figs and dates. Eat 4 to 5 almonds every day. This will help to increase weight naturally.

5.    Gaining weight doesn't mean necessarily you don't have to exercise. It’s a myth. For gaining weight healthily, one must exercise regularly.

6.    Add spices such as cinnamon, ginger, garlic, cardamom, clove and black pepper in your diet, which stimulates appetite.

7.    Sleep well at night. Avoid distractions before going to bed and stay away from mobile phones or laptops. Try to drink a glass of cow's milk with a pinch of turmeric for a sound sleep.

8.    Do not engage in watching television, mobile phone or read while you are eating.

9.    Try to avoid a lot of water before or after meals. Small sips of water during meals if you required. According to Ayurvedic Medicine, it is better to drink lukewarm water during meals in cold weather.

10.  Massaging of the whole body allows the muscles and bones to become strong. It helps in increasing blood circulation that will carry nutrients to all parts of your body. Ayurvedic therapies like Abhyangam, navarakizhi (a form of sweat-inducing massage) are generally used to promote strength and energy. These can be useful for gaining weight. Shirodhara are used if the person experiences weight loss due to stress and loss of sleep.
