A New Song to Sing
28 Jun 2012

This pilot study offered new mothers and their babies a twenty week interactive music and movement class as a way of helping cope with stress, depression and social support. Women who participated in the study reported that the music classes offered them something to do that was worthwhile for themselves as well as benefiting their babies. It gave them meaningful social interaction with other new mothers.

Many women related stories of the father displaying increased interest and preparedness to interact with their baby and found that he would dance and sing with the baby in ways that had not happened previously.
