Visible Invisible

A twelve week digital photography program was offered to 44 Grade Six children at one of Australia’s most disadvantaged schools. Many students were from refugee families and had not had the benefit of preschool. Some of the children did not start formal education until Year 2 or 3. The aim of the project was to help students develop their self-esteem and raise their aspirations for learning.

The final exhibition surprised everyone. The quality of the photographs and the student’s poetry moved everyone in very powerful ways, showing again the power and importance of the arts for health and well-being.
