Gympie Get Ready Resilient Leaders are coming!

The Gympie Get Ready Resilience Program takes another innovative leap forward.

Receiving endorsement initially from the Community Support Sub Committee and now from the Local and District Disaster Coordinators as well as the Mayor or Gympie (Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group), Ron Dyne the Resilient  Leaders Program is to go ahead.  Our Resilient leaders Networks will have clear linkages to the Local Coordination Centre, through Community Support Groups to be established across the Region.

Much can be learned form the Mary Street Flood Plan and areas including Kilkivan, Goomeri, Widgee and Kybong through their established Community Support Groups. The program will start off with volunteering Queensland's four day Resilience Leadership Program on 19th and 20th October and 2nd 3rd November 2012, followed up with some skills and knowledge assessments and perhaps some First Aid training.

The details and protocols of the Program will be developed with the resilient leaders themselves, to suit their local contexts.  We are also excited by the prospect that fellow CDEI Councils including Bundaberg, North Burnett and potentially Banana Shire are interested in partnering in this initiative.

At this stage we imagine the program being loosely based on the USA’s CERT Model. The CERT Site offers a wealth of information, resources, as well as actual training materials  http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/
