Ladies Sustainable Marketing Investigation
28 Feb 2012

20 enthusiastic women farmers set off on an investigation into direct and cooperative marketing opportunities across a range of farm products produced sustainably & locally including grains, wool and red meat.

Our first stop was Moppity Meats, home of the Bowman family near Young in NSW where we were treated to a beautiful lunch of their own lamb as we listened  to the Bowmans describe how their direct-to-door meat selling operation began. They are using ecologically-sound principles across their property and this works to their advantage in the products they market.

We then flew on to Melbourne and hit the ground running—a whirl-wind tour, in and out of maxi-taxis, where we toured the Dynon Wool store with Harry & Stoj of Team Dynon, had a presentation with Stuart Murdoch, the Chairman of the new and very successful Australian Grain Growers Cooperative, visited the headquarters of Profarmer and the ClearGrain Exchange in St Kilda Road, before winding up at the city store of Peter G. Bouchier—Butchers of Distinction.

This opportunity was made possible by the Australian Government, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry through their Recognising Women Farmers program.
