John Hantz is being offered this land – 1900 lots and 177 acres – for $300 a lot with tax breaks. 

Community groups weren’t offered such an explicit deal, even though they have been asking for it for years, especially as urban agriculture led by community organizations has become viable. 

Hantz also plans to grow trees, but what communities want for Detroit are community-run food gardens to provide good food and good jobs. The Detroit Food Justice Task Force will propose an alternative plan that creates a land trust for Detroit’s vacant land. For more information, go here:
