From 1978 to 1985, Lomax travelled throughout the South collecting recordings in five culture regions — Mississippi Delta and Hill Country, Central and Southern Appalachia, New Orleans, Cajun Louisiana, and Johns Island, S.C. — compiling footage for what would become his "American Patchwork" series of PBS. This clip is drawn from the Mississippi Delta and Hill Country collection. For more about this and the other American Patchwork collections, visit the Alan Lomax Archive's YouTube channel
