Australian Christian College International (ACC-I), headquartered in Mt Ommaney, Brisbane, is the overseas operating arm of the Australian Christian College group of schools. In July 2012, ACC-I held its inaugural South Pacific Youth Leadership program in Brisbane, Queensland. The program invited a group of young women future leaders from the region of Mt Hagen in Papua New Guinea, to come to Brisbane to develop their understanding of leadership. These young women had been identified by their community groups as having the potential to be future leaders who could play a productive role to make a positive difference in their community. They attended a number of workshops designed to build their leadership and community development skills, including learning about the various levels of Government in Australia and how they deliver services to the public.

They met and interacted with a range of levels of government in Australia, at the City Council, State and Federal Government levels. They spent time with a range of community groups at various schools, churches and met with staff and students at a local university. There was also a special welcoming function at Australian Christian College-Moreton, our Queensland flagship school where the tour participants were introduced to the student body and staff as well as a range of important guests from the wider community.

The girls graduated with a Certificate of Participation and returned to Papua New Guinea with a range of happy memories and new found skills in leadership.

The young women will continue to be mentored in the future by our local PNG liaison supervisor and will remain under the umbrella of Felicity Alpert, as Head of School-International for the Australian Christian College group.
