In July 2002, after a sustained 10 year community campaign against a housing development in north Watson, the Watson Community Association was successful in protecting an 18 hectare native grassy woodland. Watson Woodlands Working Group was then established to care for this woodland which is now called Jutice Robert Hope Park. The Park was expanded on August 2 2005 to include an additional 18ha. The Group has achieved a great deal by removing weeds and planting local natives.

They have also set up experimenting plots to monitor the success of different plantings.

The Watson Woodland Working Group continues to protect and enhance this endangered woodland. July 2012 marked the tenth anniversary of the Watson Woodland protection and was celebrated with an art competition and the launch of the revised brochure for Justice Robert Hope Park called "a rare patch"
